Incense
Incense is not only used for it's skill at setting a lovely mood. In magick incense can also be used to represent the Element Air. Incense take us off to the spiritual realms and is commonly used by both priests and occultists. For truly pure magick you may prefer to make your own granular incense out of resins, gums, woods, and herbs. A proper incense burner would be essential if you choose to work this way.
It is not essential to make your own incense. Joss-sticks or dhoop (incense cones) can work just as well. But, burning the granular incense on a charcoal disc inside a fireproof receptacle is the preferred method.
Use a mortar and pestle to grind your own granular incense.
How To Blend Your Own Granular Incense
You should make your incense in small quantities so it stays potent.
1/ Grind the gum resins first (such as gum Arabic or benzoin) until the granules are like grains of sugar.
2/ Add woods, herbs, and spices of your choice. These should already have bee finely ground and blended together.
3/ Add essential oils a few drops at a time and mix well. You want to be adding your own energy into the incense as you mix it thoroughly.
4/ Dedicate the incense to it's intended purpose.
5/ Put the incense in a strong plastic bag, close it, and then place it in a jar with a secure lid. This shall help it maintain it's potency.
6/ Do not use for the first 24 hours as the mixture still needs time to blend and settle together.
7/ Label the jar with the date and the ingredients. You may also add the intended use for the incense.
